A Miracle at the Laundromat | The Grad School Series

I remember a season of my life when the Lord answered a simple prayer in the most unexpected way. Call it a miracle; I would too.

It was during my time in West Virginia. I was renting an apartment that had no washer or dryer at all. So, we had to go to a local laundromat to do our laundry. The problem was that I didn’t have a car and usually got a ride with a friend or a neighbor. By this time, both had moved away, and the only option left for me was to take public transit.

So, one day in the fall, as the temperature was dropping, I was at the bus stop waiting for the bus with my laundry bag. I thought, “This is not sustainable. I cannot do this for a very long time, especially in winter when it gets so cold and so difficult to move around.”

So, I simply prayed, “God, would You send me help, please? I don’t know how I am going to navigate this, but I need a ride.”

I got to the laundromat, as usual, with a book. I actually enjoyed my laundromat trips. I treated them as a time to catch up with myself, relax, and read my book. So, it was a personal self-care time for me on Saturday mornings.

After loading my clothes, I probably picked up my book to read. A few minutes later, I saw this couple walk in with a heavy duvet or blanket. They turned out to be my very good friends from church.

I had watched them closely, just learning about life, marriage, and serving Christ, and we were already getting closer. I would never have imagined seeing them at a laundromat.

Well, P and W’s washer needed to be fixed, and it happened that they had to wash that heavy duvet on that particular day, at the same laundromat, around the same time I was there.

P asked me how I got to the laundromat, knowing that I didn’t have a car, to which I replied, “The bus.”

They both offered me a ride home and said I should never have to take the bus to do my laundry again. What a miracle! Till today, the couple don’t know the back story, they never knew the details of how they were an answered prayer to this foreigner in a mountain state of West Virginia. Grace did transform my life, after a simple prayer for a ride. You may check this out about Grace betwixt.

P would always give me a ride to the laundromat until I left West Virginia, which was right after my wedding. And W walked me down the aisle.

Dear friend, what are your heart’s desires? Do you find them too simple to bring before the Lord in prayer, too mundane to even bring to the throne of grace, or are you saving space for only the heavy affairs of life? The affairs you may not share with a friend, the needs only you and your God know keep getting recycled in your heart.

Take them to the Lord in prayer!!

I hope your fall is off to a good start. You may find something in this Inherent lessons from fall and there is a playlist attached.

Mark 11:24 – “Whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours.

I John 5:14-15 – This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.
